چکیده

everal lines of evidence suggest that autonomic innervation lays a role in the generation of atrial fibrillation (AF). anglionated plexi (GPs) that modulate autonomic inneration have been identified over both atria, particularly the ulmonary vein (PV) antral regions. Stimulation of GPs esults in the local release of parasympathetic and sympahetic neurotransmitters, which may lead to increased autoaticity, shortening of the action potential duration and the ffective refractory period, and/or triggered activity (1). timulation of GPs has been demonstrated to promote PV rrhythmogenicity and facilitate induction of sustained AF y premature atrial depolarizations (2,3). It is possible that Ps function as an upstream regulator of both PVand on-PV–dependent mechanisms of AF.

Intra-Atrial Conduction Delay Revealed by Multisite Incremental Atrial Pacing is an Independent Marker of Remodeling in Human Atrial Fibrillation

OBJECTIVES This study sought to characterize direction-dependent and coupling interval-dependent changes in left atrial conduction and electrogram morphology in uniformly classified patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) and normal bipolar voltage mapping. BACKGROUND Although AF classifications are based on arrhythmia duration, the clinical course, and treatment response vary betwe...

Role of the autonomic nervous system in atrial fibrillation: pathophysiology and therapy.

Autonomic nervous system activation can induce significant and heterogeneous changes of atrial electrophysiology and induce atrial tachyarrhythmias, including atrial tachycardia and atrial fibrillation (AF). The importance of the autonomic nervous system in atrial arrhythmogenesis is also supported by circadian variation in the incidence of symptomatic AF in humans. Methods that reduce autonomi...

Effect of pacing site on the atrial electrogram at target sites for slow pathway ablation in patients with atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia.

Atrial electrograms recorded from target sites during radiofrequency catheter ablation of the slow atrioventricular (AV) nodal pathway are often fractionated and may be associated with a late, high frequency component (the slow pathway potential). The purpose of the current study was to assess the effects of slow pathway ablation on the morphology of the atrial electrogram and to determine whet...

Atrial fibrillation produced by prolonged rapid atrial pacing is associated with heterogeneous changes in atrial sympathetic innervation.

BACKGROUND Structural and electrophysiological changes of the atria occur with prolonged rapid rates; however, the effects of sustained atrial fibrillation (AF) on autonomic innervation of the atria are unknown. We hypothesized that electrophysiological remodeling from rapid atrial rates is accompanied by altered atrial autonomic innervation. METHODS AND RESULTS Six dogs (paced group) underwe...
